On August 18, Hon. Winston Chitando, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Mines and Mining Development, led a delegation to visit Huayou Cobalt’s headquarters. Chen Xuehua, Chairman of Huayou Cobalt, extended a warm welcome.

Minister Chitando thanked Chairman Chen for the gracious hospitality. As a “long-standing and trusted friend” of Huayou, he reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering support for the company’s existing projects and investment expansion in Zimbabwe. He noted that Huayou’s investments had not only set a benchmark for Sino-Zimbabwean economic cooperation but also delivered tangible benefits to local communities.

The Minister lauded Huayou’s social responsibility initiatives and green mining practices in Zimbabwe, pledging that the Zimbabwean government would continuously optimize the business environment, provide policy support, and streamline administrative processes to safeguard Huayou’s long-term development. He expressed hope that the company would further drive local economic growth and contribute to Zimbabwe’s sustainable progress while scaling its operations.

Chairman Chen welcomed Minister Chitando and outlined Huayou’s overarching development strategy—Controlling the Resources Upstream, Developing the Markets Downstream, Enhancing the Capability from Within—alongside its three-year journey in Zimbabwe. He emphasized the company’s “win-win cooperation for shared future” principle and its investment philosophy: “Wherever we invest, we must contribute to local economy and society.”

By adhering to international ESG management standards, Huayou has actively promoted economic growth and social welfare in Zimbabwe. Chairman Chen stated that, amid the long-standing China-Zimbabwe friendship, Huayou aims to deepen collaboration, jointly advance Zimbabwe’s economic and social development, improve livelihoods, and strengthen the China-Zimbabwe community with a shared future.

Before the symposium, Minister Chitando and his delegation toured Huayou Cobalt’s exhibition hall, where they gained insights into the company’s global development, industrial layout, project construction, production operations, technological innovation, and corporate culture.
